The paddock is the enclosed area behind the pit lane at a Formula 1 circuit where the teams set up their motorhomes, engineering centres, and logistical operations. It is the hub of activity away from the track — where team principals meet, drivers attend media sessions, and the commercial side of the sport operates. Access to the paddock is strictly controlled. Only accredited team personnel, FIA officials, media, and VIP guests are permitted to enter. It is Formula 1’s version of a backstage area.
Example: The team principal has called an urgent meeting in the motorhome — there’s a lot of activity in the paddock this evening.
The paddock is not the same as the pit lane. The pit lane is where cars stop for tyres and the mechanics work; the paddock is the broader backstage area where team facilities and motorhomes are located.
