Active aero refers to aerodynamic parts on a Formula 1 car that can physically move or adjust while the car is in motion. Unlike fixed wings, these components change their angle or shape to alter how much downforce or drag the car produces. The most well-known example is the Drag Reduction System (DRS), which opens the rear wing on straights. Active aero helps drivers go faster in different parts of a circuit.
Example: The stewards are investigating that move — the team may have deployed active aero outside the permitted zone.
Active aero is not the same as DRS specifically; DRS is just one example of active aero — a broader term for any moveable aerodynamic component.
