Late braking describes the technique of delaying the braking point for a corner as long as possible before slowing down. By braking later than a rival, a driver can carry more speed deeper into a braking zone and potentially complete an overtake before the corner. It is one of the most demanding skills in Formula 1 — braking too late risks locking up the wheels, missing the apex, or going off track. Late braking is most effective at the end of long straights leading into slow corners.
Example: He goes late on the brakes — and he’s made it stick! Fantastic overtake into turn one!
Lewis Hamilton has built a very successful career around a very late braking driving style.
