Sidepods are the large structures on either side of the cockpit in a Formula 1 car. They house the car’s radiators, which cool the engine and other components, and are also aerodynamically significant. Air enters through openings in the sidepods and exits through vents at the top or rear. The shape of the sidepods has become one of the most distinctive and varied design choices between teams — some teams use very large sidepods, others run extremely compact or undercut designs to improve airflow to the floor and rear of the car.
Example: The team have introduced completely redesigned sidepods — that undercut shape should direct more air towards the diffuser.
