DNS stands for Did Not Start. It appears in race results when a driver who was due to participate never actually began the race. This can happen due to a crash in qualifying, a serious mechanical failure on the way to the grid, or a medical issue. A DNS is different from a DNF, where the driver starts but fails to finish. DNS results are rare but do occur, and the driver receives no points for the race weekend.
Example: It’s a DNS for the number three car — a fuel system issue found on the grid means he won’t be able to start.
A DNS means the driver never started the race, whereas a DNF means they started but did not finish — both result in zero points.
