A purple sector on the timing screens means that a driver has just set the fastest time through that section of the circuit of any driver in the entire session — an absolute track record for that sector in this session. Purple sectors are highlighted in bright purple on live timing graphics. Setting multiple purple sectors usually means a driver is on course for a very fast lap, often pole position in qualifying. A purple sector is faster than a green sector, which only indicates a personal best.
Example: He’s gone purple in sectors one and two — if he holds on through the final sector, this could be a stunning pole lap!
Purple is faster than green — green is a personal best for that driver, purple is the best of everyone in the session.
