DSQ stands for Disqualified. It appears in race or qualifying results when a driver has been removed from the results by the stewards for a serious rule violation. Common reasons include a car being found underweight after the race, illegal components, or breaching technical regulations. A DSQ removes all points scored in that session or race. Unlike a penalty that costs time, a disqualification erases the result entirely and can be issued hours or even days after the event.
Example: The post-race scrutineering has found an issue with the floor — there’s a risk of DSQ for the race winner.
A DSQ can be issued after the race during scrutineering checks — it is not always decided during the event itself.
